Former British prime minister Liz Truss was photographed at a dinner in Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort on the night of the 2026 US midterm elections, as Republicans suffered heavy losses that handed Democrats control of both the Senate and the House.
Dinner with Trump allies
Truss, who served 49 days in office before being ousted by Conservative colleagues, appeared at a table alongside some of Trump's most prominent supporters. She held up a copy of Polish MEP Dominik Tarczyński's book and posted an image on social media with the caption "Be Like Poland! Backing Dominik Tarczyński and his fellow freedom fighters!". Tarczyński, who was banned from entering the UK earlier this year for a Tommy Robinson rally, was seated at the same table.
Republican wipeout
The gathering took place as a projected Democratic "Blue Wave" materialized, wiping out Republican seats across the country and flipping both chambers of Congress.
Truss defends economic record
Truss's appearance follows the release of her book "Bank Job", in which she argues that her 2022 mini-budget was not the primary cause of the ensuing financial market chaos. She blames the Bank of England's quantitative tightening and liability-driven investment pension funds for the spike in gilt yields, stating she bears "not very much" responsibility. Truss also said prime ministers should not have to conduct their own research on central bank operations.
MAGA alignment
The former prime minister has openly declared herself part of Trump's MAGA movement, reinforcing her alignment with the US right wing.
