French blood banks were targeted by a cyberattack on Monday, the French health ministry said, disrupting monitoring systems for cold storage rooms at several regional facilities of the French Blood Establishment (EFS). The ministry said blood supplies remained safe thanks to alarm systems and immediate precautionary measures, and the situation is now under control.
Attacks follow supermarket fridge hacks across Europe
The incident comes a day after hackers tampered with supermarket refrigeration systems in eight European countries, forcing stores to discard large quantities of food. That attack mirrored similar hacks on French supermarkets three weeks earlier. Authorities are investigating the blood bank breach and assessing affected equipment to determine a timeline for a safe return to service.
