UK PM Burnham: World Has Opportunity to Resolve Iran Conflict

By Basant El-Faramawy

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said the United States midterm election results have given the world an opportunity to unite behind resolving the Iran war and easing the global cost-of-living crisis.

US Voters Signal Desire for Cooperation

Burnham, speaking after Democrats seized control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives in what he described as a "blue tsunami," said American voters are demanding that leaders focus on issues that matter to ordinary people.

Link Between Conflict and Living Costs

The prime minister argued that he cannot reduce domestic cost-of-living pressures until the Middle East conflict is resolved, noting that the war in Ukraine started by Russia also weighs on the global economy.

Push for De-escalation in Middle East

Asked about possible escalation after the US vote, Burnham said he would work for de-escalation and push for the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping lane.
