Comedian Chris Rock has candidly discussed the personal issues that led to the end of his 18-year marriage to Malaak Compton-Rock, admitting to a pornography addiction and infidelity during an interview with GQ after being named one of the magazine’s Men of the Year.
Divorce and Personal Struggles
Rock, 61, split from Compton-Rock in 2014. The former couple share two daughters, Lola, 24, and Zahra, 22. In the interview, Rock said he watched a lot of porn but has not done so in five or six years, describing the behavior as something he is not proud of but had to go through.
Pandemic Reflection and Career
The actor and director reflected on his life during the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompted him to reassess his choices. He noted that the divorce forced him to earn “real money” and that the pandemic became a time to evaluate his direction. Rock compared his experience to a Marvel superhero testing powers, realizing he was “severely humbled” and not as powerful as he thought.
Therapy and Insecurity
Rock recently revealed he has been in therapy to address insecurity, particularly when comparing himself to peers like Adam Sandler and Rick Rubin. While he does not doubt his professional status, he admits feeling anxious about others’ work ethic and parenting. He said his daughters do not forgive his sins but provide an education he would not otherwise have.
