Katherine Parkinson says Rivals scene with Claire Rushbrook felt intimate

By Ahmed Abdelsalam

Actress Katherine Parkinson has described filming a scene with co-star Claire Rushbrook in the Disney+ series Rivals as so intimate that they feel like they have "slept together."

Scene details

The sequence appears in the mid-season finale of season two. Parkinson's character, Lizzie Vereker, and Rushbrook's Monica Baddingham share a conversation about their painful marriages and the possibility of leaving their husbands. Parkinson said the emotional intensity created a profound bond between the actors.

Cultural significance

"Claire and I feel like we've slept together, like we've had a full intimate moment," Parkinson said. "We can't really be around each other now without sort of giggling." She emphasized the scene's importance for depicting women's internal lives on screen, calling it a gift to women across generations.

Release schedule

Rivals returns with three new episodes on 11 November, with the final three episodes of the season airing weekly thereafter.

Co-star's contract clause

Series star Bella Maclean recently revealed she inserted a no-nudity clause in her contract to protect her character's purity and avoid sexual exploitation.
