Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt acknowledged that soaring gas prices damaged the Republican Party's performance in the recent midterm elections, where Democrats achieved sweeping victories described as a "Blue Tsunami."
Trump's Promise vs. Reality
During the previous presidential campaign, Trump pledged to bring gasoline down to $2 a gallon. However, fuel costs surged after the U.S. joined Israel in attacking Iran in February, causing the president's approval ratings to plummet ahead of the vote.
Leavitt's Assessment
Speaking to Fox News, Leavitt said nearly every incumbent president's party loses midterms, but she believed the historical environment was worsened by prices at the pump.
