NHS doctor struck off for voyeurism and sexual assault

By Fatma Younis

NHS sexual health doctor Timothy Girling has been erased from the medical register after being jailed for six years for a series of sexual offences committed against patients and young men staying at his London flat.

Hidden cameras and clinic recordings

Girling installed covert cameras in the bathroom of his flat to film young men who had rented the property to watch the London 2012 Olympics, recording them showering, drying themselves, urinating and masturbating without their knowledge or consent.

While working as a Sexual Health Specialty Doctor at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust, he also used his mobile phone to photograph and video patients while they undressed during appointments. A patient discovered a recording on Girling’s phone in August 2023, leading to his arrest for voyeurism and later for sexual assault after a further complaint about an inappropriate examination.

Police seized Girling’s electronic devices and found indecent images of children, resulting in additional charges. He had been banned from entering Dorset while on bail.

Criminal trial and sentencing

After a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court in February 2026, Girling was convicted of three counts of sexual assault on a male, six counts of voyeurism, one count of attempted voyeurism, and three counts of making indecent images of children. He was sentenced to six years in prison.

The sentencing judge described his offending as selective, premeditated and carried out with guile, noting the severe psychological impact on victims who had trusted him as a doctor.

Medical tribunal orders erasure

The Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal Service struck Girling off the register, ruling that his sexually motivated conduct caused serious harm to vulnerable patients and damaged public trust in the profession. The tribunal determined that erasure was the only appropriate sanction to protect the public and maintain professional standards.
