Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff has surged to the top of prediction markets for the 2028 presidential race following his decisive reelection victory in Georgia's midterm contest.
Midterm Victory Boosts Odds
Ossoff now holds a 24 percent chance of becoming the Democratic nominee, up nine points in a single day, while his odds of winning the presidency stand at 18 percent, a rise from 10.5 percent the previous day. He leads fellow Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by four points and Vice President JD Vance by five points on the Polymarket platform.
Decisive Win in Georgia
The 39-year-old senator, the chamber's youngest member, defeated Republican challenger Mike Collins with 58.9 percent of the vote and more than 2.4 million ballots cast. The race had been a top Republican target, as Ossoff was the only Democratic senator seeking reelection in a state won by Donald Trump in 2024.
Campaign Against Trump
Ossoff's campaign raised over $100 million and focused sharply on criticizing the Trump administration, labeling the president a "failed lame duck" accused of personal financial gain and undermining national foundations. In his victory speech, Ossoff declared that voters had rebuked "the depravity, corruption and incompetence" of Trump.
Challenging Ocasio-Cortez and Vance
The result positions Ossoff as a significant challenger to Ocasio-Cortez for the Democratic nomination, with a projected general election matchup against Vance in 2028.
Democrats Retake Congress
In what analysts describe as a "Blue Tsunami," Democrats regained full control of both chambers of Congress, delivering a stark rebuke to Trump two years into his second term. Meanwhile, progressive Abdul El-Sayed made history as the first Muslim U.S. senator after winning in Michigan.
