Celebrity hairstylist John Frieda, whose clients included Princess Diana and Joanna Lumley, has died at the age of 75. The announcement was made Tuesday night on the official Instagram account of the John Frieda Hair Salon, stating he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Tributes from colleagues and family

Colourist Nicola Clarke, whose clients include Madonna and Cate Blanchett, described Frieda as one of the most influential mentors in her life and praised his kindness and bravery during illness. Frieda's stepdaughter, Asia, shared personal photos and called him "the best man to ever exist." Cetera Lamb, creative director at the John Frieda salon in Mayfair, London, remembered him as a true legend and maverick who led the salon for 50 years.

Career and business success

Born in London in 1951, Frieda worked in his father's hairdressing salon before establishing his own business in his early 20s. He became a household name through his haircare line, notably the Frizz Ease range, which was acquired by Japanese company Kao in 2002 for $450 million.

Personal life

Frieda married singer Lulu in 1977; they had a son, Jordan, before divorcing in 1991. He married again in 2019 to Avery Agnelli, widow of Fiat heir Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, and they had two children together.
