Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson is being prosecuted in the UK for failing to insure her £50,000 Audi SUV while she was in the United States awaiting the birth of her second child. The 46-year-old Australian comedian spent five months in Los Angeles with her wife, fashion designer Ramona Agruma, during the latter stages of pregnancy.
Insurance lapse during overseas stay
The couple's London home was unoccupied while they remained in the US due to pregnancy complications. During that period, the insurance on Wilson's Audi Q5 expired. Court documents show the vehicle was uninsured on May 26, 2026, and was kept in a private underground garage without being driven.
Criminal charge and court proceedings
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has charged Wilson with keeping a motor vehicle that does not meet insurance requirements. She has pleaded not guilty and wrote to the court apologizing for the oversight, explaining she was unaware of the requirement to maintain insurance while the car was off the road and overseas.
The case was initially handled through the Single Justice Procedure and has been referred to an open hearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on November 30. Wilson could be asked to attend. The DVLA previously offered a fixed penalty fine, but Wilson did not respond, prompting the criminal prosecution.
Personal background
Wilson and Agruma announced their relationship in June 2022 and married in Italy in 2024. Their second child, a daughter, was born on May 4, 2026. The actor rose to fame with roles in Bridesmaids, the Pitch Perfect series, Cats, and comedies such as Bride Hard and The Hustle.
