Conservative commentator Meghan McCain described President Donald Trump's election night as a "f***ing bloodbath" as Democrats secured major victories in the 2026 midterms, positioning them to take control of both the House and Senate.
Conservative commentators react
McCain, daughter of the late Senator John McCain, called the midterms the "worst election for a party since 1974" in a follow-up post. Pro-Trump personalities also responded dramatically, with Laura Loomer declaring "America is over" and Joey Mannarino predicting "two years of pure hell." Mary Trump, the president's estranged niece, sarcastically thanked him for ensuring Democratic wins.
Democratic gains in Republican states
Democratic candidates won tight races in traditionally Republican states, including James Talarico in Texas, Roy Cooper in North Carolina, Annie Andrews in South Carolina, Josh Turek in Iowa, Adam Hamilton in Kansas, and Sherrod Brown in Ohio. The results represent a major blow to Trump's agenda, which has been hampered by low approval ratings, an unpopular Iran war, stubborn inflation, and an aggressive immigration crackdown.
Trump shifts blame
Trump claimed Republicans lost because he was not on the ballot, writing on Truth Social that he would have won "IN A LANDSLIDE!" He announced plans to become a "Political Pundit" analyzing the results but had not yet published his analysis as of late Tuesday night.
