Alton Towers Permanently Closes World of David Walliams Attraction

By Basant El-Faramawy

Alton Towers has permanently closed its World of David Walliams attraction, the theme park announced on its website. The closure took effect from Tuesday, 3 November 2026, as the park is no longer in its main season.

HarperCollins Ends Partnership

The decision follows HarperCollins' announcement in September that it would phase out remaining copies of Walliams' books and cease publishing new titles. The publisher dropped the author in December 2025 after a report in The Telegraph detailed a complaint from a junior colleague regarding his conduct. HarperCollins stated it takes employee wellbeing seriously but declined to comment on internal matters.

Walliams Denies Allegations

Walliams has strongly denied any claims of inappropriate behavior and said he was not informed of any investigation by HarperCollins. A spokesperson for the author said he is taking legal advice.

Attraction History

The World of David Walliams opened in 2021 as a collaboration between the park, Walliams, and HarperCollins, inspired by his children's books such as "Gangsta Granny." Attractions included Gangsta Granny: The Ride, Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp, and the Royal Carousel.

Future Plans Unclear

The theme park said the decision was made during its annual planning process, which assesses operational and guest experience factors. It remains unclear what the area will be used for in the future.
