Americans are in the final hours of voting in midterm elections that will determine control of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The outcome carries significant stakes for former President Donald Trump's political agenda, with Republicans seeking to regain majorities in both chambers.
Polling stations across the country are reporting steady turnout as voters weigh in on key races that could shift the balance of power in Washington. Early results have begun to trickle in from states where polls closed first, though most competitive contests remain too close to call.
Democrats are defending narrow majorities in both chambers amid concerns over inflation, abortion rights, and the direction of the country. Republicans have campaigned heavily on economic issues and border security, framing the elections as a referendum on the Biden administration.
Control of the Senate hinges on a handful of battleground states including Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona. The House map features dozens of competitive districts where redistricting and local dynamics have created unpredictable races.
Election officials have emphasized the integrity of the voting process and warned that final results in close contests may take days to certify, particularly in states with extensive mail-in ballot procedures.
