Netflix has canceled the neo-Western romance series "Ransom Canyon" after two seasons, prompting stars Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel to share their disappointment publicly. The streaming service ended the show in September, months after its second season premiered in July.

Kelly addresses cancellation on podcast

On the November 3 episode of the "Mom's Car" podcast, Kelly told host Dax Shepard that the cast "all love each other so much" and called the cancellation "sad." She added, "I don't understand these things sometimes." The 46-year-old actress had previously marked the show's end on Instagram in September, thanking fans for "two beautiful seasons."

Duhamel cites strong viewership numbers

Duhamel told Us Magazine in October that he believed the series was safe because it ranked No. 1 on Netflix for nearly two weeks and had "really, really good" numbers. He said he was "bummed" and "a little upset with Netflix for not giving the audience another season," though he acknowledged the business realities behind the decision.

Series details and ratings decline

Based on Jodi Thomas's book series, the drama followed three ranching dynasties battling over land and power in a Texas community. The ensemble cast also included Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher, Casey W. Johnson, Philip Winchester and Justin Johnson Cortez. Deadline first reported the cancellation in September. Season two drew 4.1 million views in its first week, a 43 percent drop from the 7.2 million views recorded during the show's opening week in 2025. The second season remained in Netflix's top 10 for three weeks, compared to four weeks for the first season.
