Authorities on Tuesday released a frantic 911 call from Kaylub Giamanco, the man who fatally shot a 16-year-old gunman at Silver Rail Elementary School in Oregon last month. The shooter had killed a teacher and three students before Giamanco intervened.
Confrontation captured in real time
The call, lasting just over a minute, captures Giamanco telling the dispatcher there is "someone with a gun" at the school his daughter attends. He says he is armed and declares, "I will shoot them right now." The operator urges him not to act and to wait for officers.
Giamanco grows increasingly frustrated as they talk over each other. "I'm about to go kill this kid," he says. Seconds later he reports the shooter is entering the building and confirms the gunman is firing. The call ends abruptly as the operator seeks more details.
Armed parent intervenes
Giamanco was driving home for lunch when he spotted the shooter outside the school. His decision to engage the gunman ended the attack, though the teenager had already killed four people inside the building.
