Former President Donald Trump claimed during a Fox News appearance on Tuesday that the United States had been "given" Greenland, repeating a false assertion as Americans voted in the midterm elections. Speaking by phone to "Fox & Friends" on November 3, Trump said Europe had given the U.S. "the greatest gift we were ever given" and identified it as Greenland.
Hosts note military agreement
One of the hosts pointed out that the arrangement was a military deal, but Trump moved on to other topics. Greenland remains an autonomous territory of Denmark, a NATO ally. The U.S., Denmark and Greenland recently signed an enhanced security agreement following months of Trump threatening to buy or seize the island.
