Federal authorities have charged an Oklahoma man with sending hundreds of letters containing white powder to public officials ahead of the 2024 and 2026 elections. The substances were identified as yeast or flour, though not all letters have been fully tested, the FBI said in a court filing made public Tuesday.
Charges and court appearance
Robin Martin faces charges of conveying a hoax and mailing threatening communications. He was expected to make his initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon in Oklahoma City. Online records do not list an attorney representing him.
Nationwide investigation
Federal authorities announced last month they were investigating letters with "suspicious substances" mailed to congressional and election offices nationwide. The Senate sergeant at arms warned that while law enforcement was working to intercept additional letters, some might still reach their destinations. The FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service are leading the investigation.
