Prediction Markets Show Democratic Edge on Midterm Election Day

By Islam El-Sakka

Prediction markets are signaling a strong advantage for Democrats as Americans vote in the 2026 midterm elections. Kalshi, a platform linked to Donald Trump Jr., gives Democrats a 76 percent chance of winning both the House and Senate, up from 28 percent in January. The odds of a Republican sweep stand at just 6.5 percent.

Polymarket echoes Democratic momentum

Polymarket, another prediction platform where Trump Jr. also holds an advisory role, shows Democrats with a 77 percent chance of taking the Senate and a 95 percent chance of winning the House. Republicans hold a 23 percent chance of retaining the Senate and only a 6 percent chance of keeping the House.

Trump Jr. ties to prediction platforms

Donald Trump Jr. joined Kalshi as an adviser last year, receiving shares valued around $300,000, according to the Financial Times. He joined Polymarket's advisory board in August 2025 with an undisclosed investment through his 1789 Capital venture fund.

Senate and House battlegrounds

Republicans currently hold a slim 53-47 Senate majority with two independents caucusing with Democrats. Thirty-five Senate seats are contested. In the House, the GOP holds 219 seats to Democrats' 214, with 218 needed for a majority.

Texas race tightens

Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico is running neck-and-neck with Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton in Texas, a traditionally deep-red state. Polls show Democratic candidates surging even in Republican strongholds.

Voter sentiment shifts

A Politico poll conducted by PF Global indicates about 9 percent of Trump's 2024 voters plan to support a Democrat in the midterms. Public anger over the cost of living and the president's war in Iran has fueled grim polling for Republican candidates, though Trump himself is not on the ballot.
