Alton Towers has permanently closed its World of David Walliams attraction, the theme park announced on Tuesday.
Attraction details and closure announcement
The attraction opened in 2021 as a collaboration with Walliams and HarperCollins, featuring rides such as Gangsta Granny: The Ride, Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp, and the Royal Carousel. The park stated the closure is effective from 3 November 2026 and advised guests to check the website for updates.
HarperCollins ends partnership with Walliams
The closure follows HarperCollins' decision to phase out Walliams' books after allegations of inappropriate behaviour toward young women. The publisher announced in September it would stop printing his titles, having dropped him in 2025 following a complaint from a junior colleague reported by The Telegraph. Walliams has strongly denied the claims and said he was not informed of any investigation.
Background on Walliams and the attraction
Walliams rose to fame with Little Britain and later as a judge on Britain's Got Talent. His children's books have sold over 60 million copies worldwide, with six adapted for television. HarperCollins published all 23 of his children's books, but they have since been removed from the publisher's website.
Future of the site uncertain
Alton Towers said the decision came during its annual planning process, considering operational and guest experience factors. It remains unclear what the area will be used for in the future.
