Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Everton on Monday, extending their poor run to four losses in six Premier League games and prompting boos from the St James' Park crowd at full-time.
Jaissle Under Pressure
Manager Matthias Jaissle acknowledged the fans' frustration, saying "big frustration, big disappointment" and accepting responsibility. The German, 38, is three months into a four-year contract after arriving from Red Bull Salzburg.
Defensive Woes and Goalkeeping Error
The decisive goal came from a goalkeeping error by Lukas Hornicek, who allowed Thierno Barry's shot to squirm under his body. Substitute Jacob Ramsey was sent off late, and Newcastle have now failed to keep a clean sheet in 14 consecutive home league matches, a club record.
Carragher's Concern
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher expressed concern on Sky Sports, noting Newcastle have lost more home games in 2026 than any other Premier League side (7) and have lost 16 of their last 18 league matches when conceding first.
Attacking Struggles
Despite 17 attempts against Everton, only two were on target. Newcastle have scored just once from their last 47 shots in all competitions. Captain Dan Burn admitted the team lacks ruthlessness in both boxes and that nervousness in the stadium affects confidence.
Upcoming Fixtures
Newcastle, currently 13th with 11 points from nine games, face Fulham away on Saturday before hosting leaders Arsenal on 21 November and traveling to Brighton eight days later. Jaissle insists unity and detailed analysis are needed to turn the season around.
