Actor John Goodman has revealed he is still adjusting to his appearance after losing 14 stone, nearly half his body weight, over the past decade.
Weight Loss Methods
Goodman achieved the dramatic change through a combination of dietary changes, increased exercise, and stomach surgery. He confirmed he did not use GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic or Wegovy.
Public Commentary and Self-Perception
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Goodman said he ignores public commentary about his body but finds his new face strange. He acknowledged that his previous weight of approximately 28 stone held back his career, partly due to self-sabotage.
Anonymity and Clothing
In a separate interview with The Times, Goodman noted that his weight loss has made him largely unrecognizable, granting him a degree of anonymity in public. He added that while he still feels like a larger person, he enjoys being able to shop at regular clothing stores.
Health Struggles and Early Life
Goodman began his weight loss journey in 2016 by cutting back on sugar and snacks and working with a personal trainer. He described his past eating habits as dangerous, leading to joint damage that required both knees to be replaced. He also recalled using food as comfort during his childhood as a latchkey kid and revealed that his weight kept him from being drafted for the Vietnam War.
Career and Future Projects
Goodman rose to fame as Dan Conner on the sitcom Roseanne and has starred in six Coen brothers films, Argo, and voiced Sully in Monsters, Inc. His most recent role was in the film Digger, and he is set to join the casts of Netflix's The Beast in Me and HBO's The Last of Us.
