Voting has commenced in the United States midterm elections, widely viewed as a critical referendum on Donald Trump's presidency. The high-stakes contests will determine control of Congress and shape the political landscape for the remainder of Trump's term.
Americans are casting ballots for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 Senate seats, and numerous governorships and state legislative positions. The outcome will test Republican dominance in Washington and could shift the balance of power in both chambers.
Democrats need a net gain of 23 seats to retake the House majority, while Republicans hold a narrow Senate advantage that Democrats hope to overcome. The elections are seen as a barometer of public sentiment toward Trump's policies and leadership style.
Early voting numbers have surged compared to previous midterm cycles, indicating heightened voter engagement. Both parties have mounted extensive get-out-the-vote operations in key battleground states and districts.
