105-Year-Old Credits Daily Siestas for Long Life

Dora Horsfall, a 105-year-old woman from London now living in Salisbury, celebrated her birthday on Monday, attributing her longevity to a daily napping habit.

A Life Spanning History

Born on 2 November 1921, Horsfall has lived through the Second World War, the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, and 24 prime ministers. She worked as a bus conductress and in a secret Spitfire factory during the war. She married Reg in 1941, raised two daughters, and later spent 18 years in southern Spain before returning to the UK.

Daily Siesta Routine

Her granddaughter, Mandy Cheeseman, said Horsfall has maintained a daily siesta throughout her life, which she believes contributes to her good health. "She has a siesta every day, even when we were little ones," Cheeseman said.

Birthday Celebration and Royal Card

Horsfall marked her 105th birthday with a violin performance, afternoon tea, and a strawberry and vanilla cake. She also received a birthday card from King Charles and Camilla.

Family and Reflections

Horsfall is a grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of nine, and great-great-grandmother of four. She noted that the greatest invention of her lifetime was elastic, though she joked it still needs improvement.
