Kimi Antonelli clinched his first Formula 1 world championship on Sunday, becoming the youngest champion in the sport's history at 20 years and 67 days old, after finishing third at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Antonelli secures historic title
The Italian driver needed only to avoid trouble to seal the title with several races remaining. He ran a composed race, moving up to third after a red-flag period turned the closing stages into a 25-lap sprint finish. Tears and laughter marked his radio celebrations as Mercedes confirmed the championship, breaking Sebastian Vettel's previous record by three years and 67 days.
Ferrari tension overshadows race
Teammates Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc clashed on the opening lap, with Leclerc's aggressive move sparking frustration at Ferrari. Hamilton felt a potential win slipped away due to the internal battle, while Leclerc's early lead attempt caused controversy within the team.
Verstappen claims victory in chaotic finish
Max Verstappen capitalized on the Ferrari infighting to win his third race in four events. The Red Bull driver held off Hamilton in a nose-to-tail finish covering three cars within two seconds after multiple safety-car interruptions and a red flag caused by Valtteri Bottas' crash.
