Film director Michael Mann, 83, was hospitalized Saturday after an accidental weapon discharge at a Los Angeles gun range, his representative confirmed. The Emmy Award-winning filmmaker suffered a minor subcutaneous injury and was treated and released the same day.
Accident During Target Practice
Mann, a target shooter for decades, was practicing at the range when a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a radio call of shots fired and determined the shooting was accidental. Officers cleared the scene after completing an injury report, stating the subject was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Career and Current Projects
Mann is best known for crime dramas including his 1981 feature debut "Thief," the 1986 thriller "Manhunter," and the 1995 epic "Heat." He told Vulture in 2017 that the cast of "Heat" used full-load blanks to capture authentic gunfire sounds. Mann is reportedly developing "Heat 2" as an adaptation of his 2022 novel co-written with Meg Gardiner.
