Jack Antonoff Finds Power in Singing Songs About Ex-Wife

Musician Jack Antonoff has revealed that he finds a sense of strength in performing songs originally written about his former wife, actress Margaret Qualley. The 42-year-old Bleachers frontman and Grammy-winning producer and the 32-year-old actress separated during the summer following a five-year relationship.

Commitment to Honesty in Music

Currently touring with his band Bleachers, Antonoff continues to perform tracks such as “Dirty Wedding Dress” and “You and Forever,” which were inspired by his relationship with Qualley. Despite initial concerns about his setlist, Antonoff decided to remain authentic to his audience, stating that his connection with listeners is built on honest emotional expression.

Antonoff explained that while the songs reflect sadness and pain, there is a profound beauty in the shared experience between the performer and the audience. He emphasized his refusal to rewrite his history, noting that he would rather face his past publicly through his music than attempt to escape it privately.

A High-Profile Relationship

The relationship between Antonoff and Qualley was a significant fixture in pop culture. Their union was celebrated in a star-studded wedding in August 2023, attended by high-profile guests including Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen. Qualley also made appearances in several of Antonoff's music videos, including “Tiny Moves” and “Alma Mater.”

The couple met in 2021 and became engaged the following year. Their connection also influenced the work of other artists, most notably inspiring Lana Del Rey's song “Margaret.”
