Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged that individual errors are costing his team after a second consecutive Premier League defeat, a 1-0 loss to Brighton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Costly mistakes continue
The winning goal came in the 11th minute when Matheus Nunes miskicked a clearance, allowing Yasin Ayari to score. The error followed costly mistakes by Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marc Guehi in the previous 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Maresca calls for analysis
Maresca said the errors have occurred many times in the last two or three games and the team needs to analyse and understand how to improve. He added that nobody at the club is happy with the losses but they were aware they would not win every game.
Brighton capitalize on early chance
Ayari’s goal delivered on Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler’s aim to avenge their Carabao Cup defeat to City. The Swedish midfielder had missed a penalty in the shoot-out of that tie. Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen made several key saves, including tipping an Iliman Ndiaye effort onto the woodwork.
City look ahead to Champions League
Midfielder Elliot Anderson said City created many chances and were unlucky not to score, insisting the team gave everything. City now travel to Germany to face Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Anderson stating they must improve together.
