Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch has been renewed for a second season, with production scheduled to begin early next year. Star Kelly Reilly confirmed the update during a surprise appearance at the Paramount U.K. Upfronts, revealing the series attracted 12.9 million viewers worldwide in its first week on Paramount+.
Record-Breaking Debut
The series premiered in May and became Paramount+'s biggest original series launch to date. A second season was ordered before the first season finished airing. Reilly described the show as a risk she was proud to take, moving her character Beth Dutton from Montana to South Texas.
Production Timeline and Locations
Filming for season one took place from August 2025 to March 2026 across multiple Texas locations, including Ferris, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Season two is now slated to start production early next year.
Creative Changes Behind the Scenes
Showrunner Chad Feehan has been replaced by Benjamin Cavell, known for co-creating The Stand and working on Homeland, SEAL Team, and The Institute. Creator Taylor Sheridan remains an executive producer but was not in the writers' room for season one. Co-star Cole Hauser acknowledged challenges with the new creative team but expressed optimism about Cavell's leadership.
Cast Returns
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will reprise their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. The series follows the couple's relocation to South Texas after a devastating fire destroys their Montana ranch.
