Jamie Carragher has apologized to Aston Villa after the Premier League club threatened legal action over comments he made on a podcast.
Club Threatens Legal Action
Aston Villa issued a statement signed by chairman Nassef Sawiris late Friday, saying they would initiate legal action against Carragher for "unacceptable insults" about the club and its fans.
Carragher's Apology
On Saturday, Carragher posted on X acknowledging his language was "clumsy and wrong," adding that his remarks were intended as tongue-in-cheek but understood they did not come across that way.
Context of Comments
The controversy stemmed from Carragher's remarks on the Stick to Football podcast, where he suggested manager Unai Emery might consider moving to Manchester United because of football's "food chain," and told Villa fans to "shut the f--- up" as the club would never be United.
Reaction from Fellow Pundits
Fellow hosts Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Roy Keane and Jill Scott argued Emery would likely stay at Villa given the club's upward trajectory.
