Health workers at an Ebola treatment centre in Mongbwalu, the historic epicentre of the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, celebrated after the final patients were discharged from the facility.
Milestone in Ituri Province
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said the centre in Ituri has no confirmed cases in beds for the first time since the Ebola outbreak was declared in May.
Death Toll and Ongoing Spread
According to government data, more than 5,000 people have now died from the DRC outbreak.
MSF warned that dozens of new cases are still being detected every day in other parts of the country, and its teams continue to work across six of the eight affected provinces to contain the outbreak and save lives.
