High-level delegations from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey arrived in Tehran on Monday to engage in talks with Iranian authorities. The meetings aim to prevent a resumption of military conflict between Iran and the forces of Israel and the United States.
Diplomatic Efforts and Key Participants
The diplomatic mission includes Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, and the head of Turkey’s intelligence service. These officials are meeting with Iran's top security negotiators to push for a potential deal between Tehran and Washington. Discussions are also expected to cover the war in Yemen and strikes conducted by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia.
Escalating Tensions and Election Pressures
Regional stability remains precarious as leaders in Israel and the United States sharpen their rhetoric ahead of upcoming elections. In Iran, officials are bracing for the possibility of all-out war. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that while the window for diplomacy remains open, messages are being sent to the U.S. via intermediaries. Baghaei noted that negotiations have stalled due to what he described as unilateral American demands for complete surrender.
Israeli Military Warnings
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning on Sunday, suggesting that Iran or its proxies might launch attacks to disrupt the electoral process. Netanyahu stated that the military is prepared to both defend and strike, promising disproportionate responses to any aggression. Amid these tensions, reports surfaced regarding potential internal friction within the Israeli leadership concerning military actions that could trigger a direct conflict with Iran, though Netanyahu has dismissed such claims.
