Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has addressed his future at Old Trafford following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth. Despite the loss, Carrick clarified that his gesture of waving to the supporters was not a farewell, even as he admitted uncertainty regarding whether he will remain in his position.
Uncertainty following heavy defeats
The club is currently enduring its worst start to a season in 40 years. This latest defeat follows a 4-1 loss to Como, marking two consecutive matches where the team conceded three or more goals. During the match, Bournemouth supporters targeted the head coach with chants calling for his dismissal.
Carrick noted that he had a brief conversation with the club's hierarchy after the game but remained uncertain if chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox would make a decision regarding his employment. He stated that while he understands the current situation, he is carrying on as normal and will respect whatever decision is made by the club.
Player reaction to poor form
The head coach described a sense of deep disappointment and hurt within the dressing room. While he has not spoken to every player individually, Carrick noted that those he has spoken with are heavily affected by the team's declining performance.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Carrick expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Manchester United fans, noting that he felt a strong connection and appreciation from the supporters even amidst the team's struggles.
