A manhunt is underway for a shooter who killed one person and injured six at a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, on Friday night, police said. The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. local time at the Solano Town Center mall.
Victims in Critical Condition
Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall told a news conference that at least three victims are in critical condition. All victims were taken to a nearby hospital. No further details about those shot were released.
Witness Account
David Bernal told NBC News affiliate KCRA that his wife was inside the store when the gunfire erupted. She escaped with others through an emergency exit after hearing “five big bangs.” She is now at home, still in shock.
Separate Michigan Shooting
Hours earlier, a 21-year-old Detroit resident was shot and killed inside a Spirit Halloween store in Madison Heights, Michigan. The alleged shooter, also 21, was taken into custody after being assaulted by bystanders. Police said the two incidents do not appear connected.
