Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies has dismissed former boss Christian Horner’s claim that the squad has “lost their mojo” since his sacking in July 2025.
Horner’s criticism
Horner, who led the Milton Keynes-based team for 20 years, suggested during a recent book promotion that the team’s vibe had deteriorated following his departure.
Mekies counters with team spirit
Speaking at the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, Mekies said the team’s unity had been a key factor in recovering from a difficult start to the 2026 season. He highlighted the collective effort that powered Red Bull’s comeback, including back-to-back victories for Max Verstappen in Malaysia and Singapore.
Engine progress and standings
Red Bull are using their own power units for the first time this year, a project launched in 2021 and overseen by Horner until his exit. The FIA has ranked the engine as the best on the grid. The team sits joint-third in the constructors’ championship, level on points with McLaren but 252 points behind leaders Mercedes.
Target remains world titles
Mekies acknowledged the progress but stressed that the ultimate goal is to return to championship contention. “We live and die with our results,” he said, adding that winning one or two races is not enough.
