Aston Villa have announced they will initiate legal action against former Liverpool defender and current television pundit Jamie Carragher over what the club described as "unacceptable insults" directed at the team and its supporters.
Club Statement
The Premier League side released a statement on Friday signed by chairman Nassef Sawiris, declaring that the club "will not allow anyone to stop our ascension in English and European football." The move follows Carragher's remarks on the "Stick to Football" podcast.
Carragher's Podcast Remarks
During the show, Carragher suggested that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery would be interested in taking the Manchester United head coach role, adding that "Aston Villa will never be Manchester United." He also told Villa fans to "shut the [expletive] up" after they criticized his comments.
Pundit's Response
Carragher, who works for Sky Sports and CBS Sports, later said on social media that his remarks were a joke provoked by the abuse he received from Villa fans. He highlighted his past praise for Emery and the club, including his prediction that Villa would win the 2026 Europa League in Istanbul.
