Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance at Aerosmith's Hollywood Bowl concert on Thursday night, joining the band for a performance of "Train Kept A-Rollin'" during the "California, Dream On: Aerosmith and Friends" show.
The 63-year-old actor, who has returned to prominence following his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, was introduced by guitarist Joe Perry, 76, as his Hollywood Vampires bandmate. Depp's appearance came ahead of the final song, "Walk This Way."
Surprise Guests and Collaborations
Foo Fighters and Nirvana veteran Dave Grohl, 57, played drums for much of the evening. Frontman Steven Tyler, 78, was joined onstage by his daughter Liv Tyler, 49, and actress Alicia Silverstone, 50, after a screening of their 1994 "Crazy" music video. The pair joked about their youth in the video and their children now.
Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson, 76 and 72, delivered a standout moment with a cover of Aretha Franklin's "Never Loved a Girl" and a rendition of "Janie's Got a Gun." The Black Crowes' Chris Robinson, 59, thanked Aerosmith for taking them on their first arena tour.
Aerosmith's Legacy and Farewell
Addressing the crowd, Tyler reflected on the band's 55-year history, saying, "We're the same band that started 55 and a half years ago." Aerosmith retired from full-time touring last year citing concerns over Tyler's health. The band is scheduled for a second Hollywood Bowl show on Sunday, November 1.
Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose and Slash also performed a set that included Aerosmith covers "Nobody's Fault," "Last Child," and "Seasons of Wither," alongside their own hits "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Paradise City."
