Prince William Praises Sir Kevin Sinfield's Knighthood

By Fatma Younis

The Prince of Wales has described awarding a knighthood to rugby league star Sir Kevin Sinfield as one of the easiest decisions ever made. Speaking during an interview, Prince William expressed his deep personal admiration for Sinfield, highlighting his ability to unite communities through leadership.

A Legacy of Endurance and Charity

Sir Kevin Sinfield recently completed a grueling endurance challenge, running seven ultra-marathons in seven days. This feat was undertaken to raise vital funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities, following the passing of his former teammate and friend, Rob Burrow, in 2024. The Prince of Wales noted that Sinfield's lack of ego and his quiet, subtle approach to such significant work set him apart.

Supporting the MND Community

The Prince reflected on his connection to the MND community, including his role in officially opening the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds. He shared the personal importance of supporting the Burrow family, noting that he wrote to Rob's wife, Lindsey, to offer condolences. The Prince also acknowledged the contributions of other figures, such as the late Scottish rugby player Doddie Weir and the Princess Royal Anne, in raising awareness for the condition.
