Zelensky Proposes Trilateral Peace Talks with US and Russia

By Ahmed Abdelsalam

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans for a trilateral meeting involving officials from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States, scheduled for November. Zelensky stated that while technical groups are ready to begin discussions, he continues to advocate for high-level leadership talks to address core issues, specifically noting that discussions regarding territory must occur at the presidential level.

Dispute Over Starlink Usage Claims

A diplomatic tension has emerged following claims by Elon Musk that the Ukrainian military violated Starlink's terms of service by using the satellite system for offensive drone strikes. Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to President Zelensky, rejected these allegations, arguing that the restrictions imposed on the service would have made the described military operations physically impossible. Beskrestnov also noted that the civilian version of Starlink does not function within Russian territory.

Restoration of Satellite Services and Missile Warnings

Zelensky confirmed that access to high-speed Starlink and Starshield satellite communications has been restored following recent service limitations. He also noted that the United States has fully resumed critical warnings regarding imminent Russian ballistic missile strikes, a vital component for Ukraine's air defense systems. These developments followed a meeting between Zelensky and US special envoy Steve Witkoff in Oslo.

Escalating Military Strikes and Civilian Casualties

The conflict continues to see significant impact on civilian infrastructure. In Russia's Belgorod region, Ukrainian drone attacks resulted in four deaths and numerous injuries, damaging dozens of apartment buildings and commercial premises. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, Russian strikes injured several people in the Zaporizhzhia and Chernihiv regions. Additionally, the Russian defense ministry reported striking a cargo vessel and port infrastructure in the Black Sea near Odesa, claiming the vessel was transporting military cargo.
