The Seattle Seahawks secured a significant victory on Sunday night, defeating the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs 20-3. The win was driven by a dominant defensive performance that held quarterback Patrick Mahomes to his lowest passing and rushing totals of the season, while also limiting the Chiefs to their fewest total yards, first downs, and red-zone drives in any game started by Mahomes.
Defensive Masterclass at Lumen Field
The Seahawks' defense stifled the Chiefs' offense throughout the game. Mahomes was restricted to just 165 passing yards, throwing zero touchdowns and one interception. The defensive pressure also neutralized Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III, who had previously been a leading force in the NFL. In his matchup against his former team, Walker was held to just 36 rushing yards on 14 carries.
Seahawks Offense Finds Rhythm
Quarterback Sam Darnold delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, recording 257 passing yards with one touchdown and a single interception. He found significant success with receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who accounted for 150 receiving yards and a touchdown. Complementing the passing game, the Seahawks' rushing attack found success, totaling 153 yards on 41 carries, led by Emanuel Wilson's 100-yard performance.
Impact on Standings
With this victory, the Seahawks move to a 4-3 record, closing the gap in the NFC West and sitting just two games behind the San Francisco 49ers. The loss drops the Chiefs to 5-1. Following the game, Chiefs coach Andy Reid noted the need to re-evaluate the team's offensive approach, while Seahawks coach Mike MacDonald praised his defense as a group of warriors who found solutions under pressure.
