Microplastics are falling on Mount Everest throughout the year, according to a new study that reveals the extent of plastic pollution on the world's highest peak.

Researchers found that microplastic particles are deposited on the mountain via atmospheric transport, contaminating snow and stream water at extreme altitudes. The findings highlight the global reach of plastic pollution, even in remote, high-altitude environments previously considered pristine.
