Judi Dench Shares Bond Doormat Story With Pierce Brosnan

By Islam El-Sakka

Dame Judi Dench has recounted a humorous reunion with Pierce Brosnan years after they starred together in four James Bond films, revealing that a Bond-themed doormat at her home greeted the former 007 actor with the phrase “I’ve been expecting you, Mr Bond.”

Memoir Promotion and Health Struggles

Dench shared the anecdote while appearing on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme to promote her new memoir, “Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It?” She also spoke candidly about her declining eyesight due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which has left her unable to read scripts, perform on stage, or act in films. “I can’t be on stage. I can’t do a play anymore. I can’t do a film anymore. I can’t read anymore,” she said.

Next James Bond Speculation

The interview comes amid ongoing speculation about who will succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond. Recent reports suggest four actors are testing for the role, including Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O’Connor, with “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve attached to helm the next installment. Former casting director Debbie McWilliams emphasized the need for the next Bond to retain an enigmatic quality, arguing that audiences should know as little as possible about the actor’s personal life.
