A humanitarian convoy comprising 25 buses, ambulances and other vehicles has been assembled in the town of Armyansk to deliver aid to the besieged city of Oleshky in Ukraine's Russian-occupied Kherson region, a Ukrainian official said Friday.

Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's ombudsman and chief negotiator, said the mission aims to reach every resident in need, with special attention to the elderly and people with disabilities. The convoy is set to depart later Friday.

Ceasefire brokered by Melania Trump

The localized ceasefire and aid operation were brokered by U.S. first lady Melania Trump, who led talks with Lubinets and his Russian counterpart Yana Lantratova.

Oleshky's humanitarian crisis

Oleshky, located just inside Russian-occupied territory, has been cut off by heavy fighting and mined roads, leaving residents without food and medicine. Moscow and Kyiv have observed the truce in and around the city since Tuesday, though the broader war continues. Previous ceasefire attempts have failed or collapsed quickly.
