Everton winger Jack Grealish was left out of the squad for Thursday's Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United due to a breach of club discipline, the club confirmed. It is understood the 31-year-old England international missed a training session, prompting the disciplinary action.
Loan spell and recent form
Grealish is on a season-long loan at Everton from Premier League champions Manchester City, having spent the second half of last season at Goodison Park. He scored twice and provided six assists in 20 appearances before a foot injury ended his campaign in January. After featuring as a substitute in City's Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and their opening league win over Bournemouth, Grealish returned to Everton before the transfer deadline and has made five Premier League appearances plus one in the Carabao Cup third-round victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Transfer background
The former Aston Villa captain joined Manchester City for a British record £100 million in 2021. His current loan arrangement mirrors the previous spell, with Everton hoping to revive his form after an injury-hit season.
