During a marathon campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, President Donald Trump addressed a wide range of topics, from personal comments about celebrities to international relations and economic issues. The event, held to support Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers and other candidates for the November midterm elections, featured several off-script remarks from the president.
Comments on Nicki Minaj and political rivals
Trump made personal comments regarding rapper Nicki Minaj, a supporter who traveled with him to Michigan. He referenced previous remarks about Senator Jon Husted, defending his comments as joking, before pivoting to praise Minaj's appearance in front of the cheering crowd. Regarding progressive House members, Trump expressed a sense of indifference toward Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, stating she did not bother him much, though he directed sharper criticism toward Representative Ilhan Omar, describing her as a troublemaker.
Claims on Greenland and Iran conflict
The president also made assertions regarding U.S. interests in Greenland, claiming the United States owns the territory through an agreement with Denmark. He noted that a recent agreement aims to provide permanent access for military bases, though the deal requires ratification by the Danish parliament. Additionally, Trump addressed rising fuel costs, acknowledging that Americans are feeling the impact of high gas prices resulting from the conflict with Iran. He defended the military actions, stating they were necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Criticism of the Nobel Peace Prize
Trump concluded his remarks by criticizing the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Expressing frustration over not receiving a Nobel Peace Prize, he dismissed this year's winner, Navi Pillay, and directed harsh words toward Norway, stating his lack of affection for the country following the committee's decision.
