Cheryl, the former Girls Aloud star known mononymously, has launched a Deliveroo advertising campaign marking her most prominent public appearance in years. The 43-year-old singer appears in a commercial for Tesco’s debut on the delivery app, riffing on a viral 2012 clip in which she joked about no longer being able to pop to the garage in her pyjamas.
Deliveroo Campaign References Viral Clip
The ad shows Cheryl ordering a pint of milk via Deliveroo, quipping that she no longer needs to worry about heading to the shops in her pajamas. “I can’t believe it’s still doing the rounds,” she said of the viral moment, “but we’ve had a good laugh giving it a glow up all these years later.” The campaign, rumored to be worth around £500,000, has drawn positive reactions online, with fans and creators hailing it as a clever self-aware comeback.
Tentative Return After Years Away
The Deliveroo spot follows Cheryl’s recent guest mentor appearance on ITV’s The Voice alongside longtime collaborator will.i.am, her first major television role since BBC One’s The Greatest Dancer ended in 2020. Reports in August suggested she is also in discussions for a documentary about her life and career, which would give her creative control over the narrative.
Past Heartbreaks and Hiatus
Cheryl’s extended absence from the spotlight follows a series of personal tragedies. Her former partner Liam Payne, father of her nine-year-old son Bear, died in October 2024 at age 31. Years earlier, her Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding died of breast cancer in 2021 at 39. These losses, combined with earlier career setbacks and a high-profile divorce from footballer Ashley Cole, prompted her to step back from public life and focus on motherhood.
Future Projects and Documentary Talks
Sources indicate Cheryl is keen for her son to see her working on television again. A potential documentary would follow a trend of celebrities revisiting their past on their own terms, similar to recent series from Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, and the Beckhams. While grief is not linear, her recent steps suggest a desire to engage with nostalgia and her career on her own schedule.
