Arsenal's Max Dowman loses appeal against red card vs Fleetwood Town

Arsenal teenager Max Dowman will serve a three-match suspension after the Football Association rejected the club's appeal against his red card for violent conduct in the Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town.

Appeal dismissed by independent commission

The 16-year-old was sent off in the 85th minute for kicking out at Fleetwood's Harrison Neal following a heavy challenge from behind. Arsenal argued the dismissal was harsh and lodged an appeal, but an independent commission upheld the ban on Thursday. The FA said written reasons for the decision would be published later.

Arteta's frustration and squad concerns

Manager Mikel Arteta appeared angry with Dowman as he left the pitch and later said he had warned the youngster to avoid reacting to physical challenges. The suspension leaves Arsenal short in wide areas ahead of Sunday's trip to Anfield, with Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis and Noni Madueke already injured.
