Donald Trump used a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday to support Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, while making provocative remarks about rapper Nicki Minaj. During the event, Trump commented on Minaj's appearance, telling the crowd that her physique was "hard to miss."

Trump's remarks regarding the rapper followed previous comments he made regarding Ohio Republican Senator Jon Husted. Trump had previously stated that while examining Husted's physical build to recognize his athletic background, he had commented on the senator's physique. Trump dismissed media coverage of these remarks as "fake news," maintaining that his comments were made in a joking manner.
Michigan midterm election context
The rally served as a push for Mike Rogers in a highly competitive race against Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. Both candidates are vying for control of the Senate as political parties compete for influence in the upcoming midterm elections. During the same event, Trump also addressed trade relations, suggesting that tensions in the US-Canada trade war would soon be resolved following his imposition of tariffs.
