Manchester United manager Michael Carrick said he is not surprised the club decided to keep him in charge despite a run of eight games without a win.
United's Decision to Retain Carrick
The 45-year-old's position came under scrutiny after heavy defeats to Como and Bournemouth. United's hierarchy, including chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox, held talks this week but opted to give Carrick the chance to turn results around ahead of Saturday's trip to Chelsea.
Carrick's Response
Carrick, who was appointed on an interim basis in January before receiving a two-year contract in the summer, insisted he does not need assurances from the board. "I totally get the position, I understand the job, I understand the responsibilities," he said.
Fernandes Retains Captaincy
The manager also confirmed Bruno Fernandes will remain captain after clear-the-air talks. Fernandes was benched for the 3-0 loss to Bournemouth but is expected to return against Chelsea.
Injury Updates
On the injury front, Kobbie Mainoo has returned to training and could feature, while Benjamin Sesko faces a long-term absence.
