Netflix's upcoming period drama adaptation of Pride and Prejudice will assign Jane Austen's most famous opening line to a different character for the first time in the novel's screen history. The streaming service's new version reimagines the classic literature by altering the delivery of the renowned opening sentence.
The change marks a significant departure from previous adaptations of Austen's 1813 novel, where the line has traditionally been presented as third-person narration or spoken by specific characters in particular contexts. Netflix's production team has chosen to restructure this literary landmark for their interpretation.
