James Bond Casting: Four Actors Screen Test, Fourth Identity Unknown

By Salma El-Sakka

Reports indicate that at least four actors participated in screen tests last weekend for the role of James Bond, with three names – Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O'Connor – identified by industry outlets Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter. The identity of the fourth actor remains unconfirmed, fueling widespread speculation online.

Three Actors Named in Reports

Lowden, Turner, and O'Connor are said to have tested for the coveted part. O'Connor's involvement has drawn particular attention because he is currently starring in a London play, potentially complicating his availability for in-person screen tests.

Speculation Over Fourth Candidate

Several British actors have been floated as the mystery fourth contender. Jack O'Connell, star of "Sinners," was initially rumored to be in the mix, though The Hollywood Reporter later indicated he was not. Jack Barton, a 31-year-old known for "Heartstopper," "Poor Things," and the BBC series "SAS: Rogue Heroes" – written by new Bond screenwriter Steven Knight – has emerged as a plausible candidate. Joe Alwyn, whose early career was shaped by Bond casting director Nina Gold, has also been suggested by online sleuths.

Actors Ruled Out

The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Jacob Elordi is not testing for the role. Harris Dickinson, previously considered a strong contender, reportedly withdrew from consideration due to exhaustion from filming four consecutive Beatles movies in which he portrays John Lennon. Nicholas Hoult, another frequently mentioned name, has also been confirmed as not in the running.

New Film Details

The upcoming Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, following Daniel Craig's final appearance in "No Time to Die" (2021). Amazon acquired MGM Studios, the franchise's longtime backer, in January 2025, assuming control of the series.
